Furfuryl Alcohol is shipped in steel tank cars, steel tank trucks, aluminium tank trucks, ISO containers, IBC's and steel drums. All should be clean and must not contain any traces of acidic materials because furfuryl alcohol is polymerized by acid and
the reaction in the presence of strong acids can be violent.
Containers, tanks, lines, and valves used to handle furfuryl alcohol should be in excellent condition to avoid possible leakage. The use of hoses made of cross-linkes polyethylene, fluorcarbons, ethylene-propylene rubber, or styrene-butadiene rubber
is recommended for transfer of furfuryl alcohol.
Containers lines with baked phenolic coatings are acceptable for furfuryl alcohol storage; however, lacquer, varnish, or epoxy resin coatings are not acceptable. Containers of furfuryl alcohol should be tightly closed when not in use and stored in cool,
well ventilated areas away from open flame, acids, and strong oxidizers. Containers should not be reused and should be disposed of in accordance with applicable codes and laws.
